CSA Week 12

Well, it’s week 12. We did it! We reached the number of weeks we guaranteed our customers! Wooooo, I was nervous. Being that this is the first year, and there was a massive drought, we didn’t know what to expect. But I think it went well! And it will continue to go well for a few more weeks. (Now that I think of it, we actually had 14 weeks of goodies, we just took 2 weeks off in the middle. 🙂 ) The corn will probably be ready next week, as long as whatever is knocking over the stalks and eating the cobs cuts it out! (raccoons, I’m looking at you!) So what’s in this week’s share?

( I gave up on the crate, it just wasn’t cutting it!)

  • pie pumpkin
  • acorn squash
  • red and yellow banana peppers
  • 4 baking potatoes
  • mixed potatoes (total of 6 lbs)
  • onions
  • jalapenos
  • bell peppers
  • beets
  • broccoli
  • leeks
  • eggplant
  • 3.5lbs cherry/pear tomatoe
  • 2lbs roma tomatoes
  • 2lbs rutgers tomatoes
  • 2lbs green beans
  • a bunch of puny Parisienne carrots
  • ONE zucchini (no squash or cukes this week? Are we sad? NOPE!)

There you have it! Week 12!

CSA Week 11

It’s raining! Can you believe it? I mean, really raining. Like, for over 24 hrs raining, not the 15 minute battering rains we’ve had this summer. It’s terrific! I would have liked it a little earlier in the season, but beggars can’t be choosers!

Despite the drought, we have a nice basket this week!

  • Eggplant
  • Acorn Squash
  • Cilantro Bunch
  • Ho Miz (Mustard greens)
  • Zucchini
  • Yellow Squash
  • 3lbs Rutgers tomatoes
  • 2 lbs roma tomatoes
  • 2 lbs cherry and pear tomatoes
  • 2lbs string beans
  • 4lbs potatoes
  • purple and yellow onion
  • Leeks
  • green bell pepper
  • mixed greens
  • cucumbers (Last of the season!)

Now, you know what rainy days at the farm mean? Tomato Canning day!

CSA Week 9

Well, it’s been hot and dry. Unfortunately, that means none of my seeds are sprouting, because I can’t keep them moist, and all of my transplants are dying because they get scorched before they can establish. Luckily, we did get about an hours worth of rain today, so it gave me one day off from watering. It looks like we won’t have anymore lettuce and carrots until things cool down a bit. Regardless, we have a pretty nice basket of goodies this week!

  • Pickling cucumbers
  • Regular cucumbers
  • Zucchini
  • Yellow Squash
  • 3lbs Yukon gold potatoes
  • 1lb mixed beans
  • 1/2lb cherry and pear tomatoes
  • Purple onion
  • Yellow onion
  • Banana Pepper
  • Jalapenos
  • Carrots
  • Eggplant

Our Roma tomatoes are starting to turn! Spaghetti sauce soon!
